What to Expect Following AltPoint Percutaneous Needle Electrolysis (PNE)

Post-Treatment Recovery Overview:

Initial Reaction (0-48 Hours Post-Treatment):

  • Mild to moderate discomfort, including pain, swelling, and stiffness, is common in the treated area. This is a normal inflammatory response as the body begins to heal.
  • Bruising or mild redness at the injection site may occur.
  • An increase in pain or discomfort within the first few days is typical and part of the body’s natural healing process, which should subside shortly.

Subacute Phase (3-7 Days Post-Treatment):

  • Pain and inflammation should start to lessen after the initial few days.
  • You may experience gradual improvements in mobility and function.

Healing Phase (2-6 Weeks Post-Treatment):

  • During this phase, you should begin to notice a decrease in pain levels and improved function as tissue regeneration continues.
  • Mobility, strength, and discomfort typically improve gradually during this time.

Long-Term Recovery (Up to 3 Months):

  • Full healing and maximum benefits may take several months as tissue regeneration progresses.
  • Many patients report significant symptom improvement between 4-6 weeks post-treatment, but results vary.

Post-Treatment Care Instructions:

1. Rest and Activity:

  • Avoid heavy physical activity for the first 48 hours.
  • Limit strenuous activity involving the treated area for one week, and gradually resume as discomfort decreases.
  • Follow up with Dr. Altman 1 week following procedure

2. Heat and Pain Management:

  • After 24 hours, apply heat (hot packs or heating pads) to the treated area for 10-15 minutes to relieve soreness.
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers, like Tylenol (acetaminophen), may be used. Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 6 weeks, as they may interfere with the healing process.
  • Refrain from smoking and alcohol for at least 3 days post-treatment.
  • Avoid deep tissue massage over the treated area for 2 weeks, as well as hot tubs and saunas for 1 week.

3. Medications:

  • Continue to avoid anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) for 6 weeks, as they can hinder the healing response.
  • Avoid supplements (vitamins, herbs) for 3 days after the procedure.
  • Follow any other medication instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

4. Follow-Up Appointments:

  • Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery and address any concerns.
  • Your physician will assess your progress and may recommend additional treatments based on your response.

5. Hydration and Nutrition:

  • Stay well-hydrated and maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins to support tissue repair.

6. Signs to Watch For:

  • If you experience excessive pain, swelling, redness, or any signs of infection (fever, chills), contact your healthcare provider immediately.
  • While some discomfort is expected, prolonged or extreme pain may require medical attention.
